What's Not to Love?

I just don't get it. Why do people get rid of pretty things, just abandoning them at the Goodwill or the Thrift Shop? I sometimes have a hard time getting rid of ugly things let alone the pretty ones! ;) On the top shelf of the tiered stand I just found this heavy lead crystal piece for $2, marked down from $4. It is gorgeous! On the second shelf I found the red bowl at Goodwill for $3.99 but got it for $2 because it was considered Christmas and half priced. The little sweet frame on the bottom shelf was from GW also. What do you call these mirrored pieces...desk blotters? It has green felt on the back so it doesn't slip I suppose. It may be called something else but I have found it so versatile. The white pitcher with sooo much personality??? You guessed it....the Thrift store for under $5.
Another mystery to me is finding pictures of people in frames from days gone by. Isn't it sad to think that someone didn't want that picture? Do you ever buy pictures of someone you don't know?

I guess their loss is your gain. It sometimes IS puzzling to see what you can find at different places. I tend to go on clean out binges and the go load up on more STUFF!

A girl after my own heart! ;o) If I finish getting my house in order today then I'll make a run to GW. I'm lucky that I live less than 10 minutes from one.

Had to tell you how much I like your motto, "Sharing decorating ideas, recipes, thrifting finds and a generous amount of friendship." Wish I'd thought of that!

Hi Donna, :)
I have not been to the actual Anthropologie store but it sure looks like fun. My sister in Birmingham has one and told me they have a great sale room. One day soon...

I remember buying the quilted candle at Target about three years ago.
Ours has a great candle section here. It might be worth a look to see if they anything similiar.

Good Luck! ~Melissa :)

I know what you mean about "why would people get rid of these things?" I think they must have been gifts from people they didn't like. . . like mother-in-laws!! LOL

Blessings,

No..actually I don't buy photo's of people I don't know..but..I have to admit that I have been tempted to...just to give them a loving home. Babies, children..yes, it makes me sad that someone didn't want them...and it is those times that I am delighted that I had all seven of my children. Still..Yes..it makes me very sad.
I think the worst thing is going to ..Estate sales..I have left a couple of them. I just could not take it. People don't always "get rid of their pretty things." Sometimes they die and there is no one to take the things. That's where people like us come in... :) I like to think somewhere someone is smiling when I buy a treasure I will love as much as they did.

Yes! I buy pictures of people I do not know. I hang them up in my home. They are referred to as the "unfamily". It breaks my heart to see them in piles, abandoned. I must give them a home.
