Recently I took a little road trip with three other friends to Kansas City. We visited Nell Hills and several other little shops. Just browsing around I always have a hard time resisting picking up soaps and candles. If they are there, it seems I must pick several up to smell.
This one REALLY appealed to me!
It is so very fragrant with the most pleasant smell!
Strong but not overpowering.
Not needing a new soap in my tub or shower quite yet, I decided to place it on my bedside table to see if I could smell it in the night.
And I DO!
Quite often I have sleepless nights…
Nights where I truly might toss and turn for up to three hours!
I have decided the scent of this soap makes those tortured hours worthwhile. I’m amazed at how often I roll over and get whiffs of lavender.
I also have a lavender candle nearby. I burn this as I browse through decorating books or cookbooks just prior to turning the light off.
The little Reed and Barton silver plate was an estate sale find from last week end as was the little footed glass dish. Such simple pleasures of life!
My motto is ~~ Let’s use the pretty things for everyday. They really do bring me great pleasure.
I was happy to see my purple irises blooming now. My mother gave the bulbs to me when we moved into our new home. She is always thinning her iris.
I don’t have any purple in my bedroom ~~ it’s actually decorated in red and gold. That won’t stop me from placing irises by my pillow or from burning a lavender scented candle. Notice the book? “Art of Accessorizing” ??
This was one Marty recommended to us a couple of weeks ago. It IS a good one! I’m joining Marty for Table Top Tuesday and Tootsie for Flaunt your Flowers this week. I hope you’ll visit them as well. There’s plenty of inspiration.
What’s on your bedside table?
What are life’s simple pleasures for you?
Donna

This is so pretty. I love the end table and the flowers and soap are such a wonderful idea. Such wonderful fragrances to enjoy all night. Your silver tray and footed dish are both so pretty. Such a lovely vignette. I am so glad you bought the decorating book. I have so enjoyed mine. I think it is fabulous, and so full of inspiration and instruction. Thanks so much for joining the party. Hugs, Marty
I bought The Art of Accessorizing, too, after Marty recommended it! It has so many great photos. Your bedside table is just lovely, and I think your idea of placing the lavender-scented soap there is a great one! Love the footed glass dish with the candle!
P. S. I just became a follower on your blog. Thanks for joining mine, too!
I love the idea of the lavender soap on your bedside table. I want some now! What a pretty table and I love how you've set it up. I have that same book too and just love it. I bought it a couple years ago and I find myself pulling it out and going through it every few weeks.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
I love your side table and the pretty way that you accessorized it. I hate that you have sleepless nights. I suffer from that, too, and it stinks! I want to cozy up in your bed with some magazines and decorating books after looking at your inviting pictures.
No fair-your iris are blooming and mine are just barely coming up! I can hardly wait to use them in my home this year. what a lovely post!
If you want your bed linens to smell deliciously of lavender... just unwrap that soap and put it on a shelf in your linen closet or wherever you store your clean linens. My mother always had unwrapped soap in the linen closet -- and our sheets and towels always smelled heavenly!

Just beautiful! Have you ever tried B&BW Lavender Vanilla bath products? Oh, they are yummy! I just love taking a shower at night & using the gel and then using the lotion. I do think it helps me sleep better! :-) I have severe insomnia too so I feel for you. When you take off your nightie, PJ's, etc., the next morning, it is the most lovely fragrance.
I am a candleholic and I love body products ~ we would be a great team shopping!
Brightest blessings,
Pat
Donna your bedside table is lovely. Thanks for visiting my blog too. Be blessed. Cindy
What a great idea to set the soap out near a warm lamp. I bet your house smells wonderful!!
I think my favorite smell is lavender - it is so soothing!
I'd have to say my favorite "simple pleasure" is a hot bath and some Dove chocolates :)
Thanks for your sweet comment on my blog, I truly appreciate it.
I love your table that is holding the soap. I bet that does smell good at night.
Thanks for visiting my blog, Donna! Love the smell of lavendar. It's supposed to help relieve stress, too, I believe. Which is probably good for those nights you wake up. I should get something that soothes me for next to my bed, since my problem is more the falling off to sleep lately.
Hi Donna, I love your bed side table and the way that you accessorized it with the iris in the beautiful vase, your pretty silver tray and footed dish. I especially love the lavender soap idea. So sweet to have that lovely aroma near your bed. Thank you for visiting my Tablescape Thursday Italian Dinner Display. Your kind comment was so appreciated. I can't wait to see what my husband comes up with for his tablescape, so stay tuned while the two of us square off for our competition. I love that you are a faux floral designer and am glad you found me as well. I have made many arrangements through the years. I have sold many but I give more away than I sell. It brings me great pleasure to make 20 centerpieces and just give them to family and friends. It has become one of my favorite things to do. I hope you have a wonderful evening.
Hugz,
Kim
Lovely vignette! The irises are pretty and the lavender soap sounds divine!

I have tried growing lavendar, but it can not survive our extreme winters, so I think I will stick to lavendar scented soaps from now on! :D Pretty irises!
Hi-
This all looks so beautiful, and I never thought to place soap on my bedside table.
How smart!
I linked to Fertilizer Friday too.
Come by if you have time,
Laura
Oooh! I LOVE lavender too! I just bought some lavender lotion on my way from Vegas to Utah at Young Family Farms. The scent is totally calming and revitalizing at the same time. I know you love candles, but have you played around with essential oils much? Burning lavender oil in a diffuser makes my entire house calm :)
Thanks for coming to my blog and for your sweet comments!
Denalee
I forgot to mention lavender in my planting post. Love it. I'm so glad you stopped by as it brought me to your blog. Lovely tabletop! And, I like the shower post as well.
Best,
Bonnie
Love the footed glass dish with the candle!
