Arrangement in the Making

Thanks so much to Susan at Between Naps on the Porch for inviting us to play along on this Metamorphosis Monday.

Let's do a little beginning to end ~~ start to finish ~~ metamorphosis with a flower arrangement this first Monday morning in March.
This arrangement started with a designer's order. Susan came to my house, told me the customer's style of decor, price point said client was allowing for this final touch to her dining room table and her colors. She had more casual taste, but this being in her dining room it could be a little bit more formal.
We pulled several possibilities of flowers and other fun pieces and threw them in a pile. My notebook is always close to write down measurements. I always must know how much distance we have been the tabletop and the bottom of the light fixture.
Here is the container that was chosen. One with a pedestal is always desireable for a dining room table in my opinion.
Moss is wrapped around the foam, which of course is glued down first.
One by one the flowers are added and the arrangement starts to take shape. I usually start with the center and the main flowers.
A little of this ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And a little of that ~~~~~~~~~ Are you following along?? OH! I just remember the designer mentioned this customer has a little copper in the room. Not really having much in copper, I try and think how I can bring that color in. I find a brown dried pod and then start looking through my paints. I try both of my copper metalics and decide on the one on the right.
VIOLA!! We now have copper!!
This centerpiece is now ready to bring upstairs for closer evaluation. On bigger pieces, I always like to walk around it and decide if it needs anything else.
I also want to make sure the shape and form are pleasing to the eye.
I think it's ready to go. This will be delivered to the client on Thursday. I hope she likes it. It's always fun to see the finished product in the cutomer's home.
Here's a closeup. Notice the copper pods? They add just a little interest without being too overdone. I love movement and lots of texture to make things interesting. Here's is another viewpoint. I hope this step by step has helped some of you floral designer wantabees! Thanks for coming along as I try to enhance someone's home with a decorative piece that will last for a long, long time. We love faux, don't we now???? Now I'm going back to Susan's to see other fabulous makeovers from all you talented bloggers!!

Hi Donna, this arrangement turned out beautiful! So many great textures and colors, that's what makes them interesting...huh?

I have some arrangements I'm doing for a client that I will probably post later on this week. Also, I'm doing my brother-in-laws wedding. Their colors are goldish yellow and brown. I did silk because the wedding is 2 hrs. away.I just told her I wasn't going to mess with fresh!lol

I'm sure your client will love this arrangement! Kristen

Ok. Your directions were great. But..I guess you didn't see what a mess I made of a vase full of...pods. Never mind. I could do..exactly as you direct..and I do mean exactly..and sad to say it would turn out looking like somebody "tried" to make an arrangement. I KNOW where my talents lay..and I will call someone like you for perfection and real beauty. But.. hey :) Thanks. I know other ladies will do great. (sigh)

Wow, that is gorgeous and you are AMAZING. I'm a little intimidated by floral design, but you gave good tips, like starting from the center. I could maybe do that.

I came over hear via your comment on my blog which you came to via Darlene. Thanks for stopping by!

Hi Donna...with your great directions, you make it seem easy..
