Well you see ~~~

I’ve been a little busy

and haven’t been blogging much

Remember I told you I had the urge to purge?  Well, it’s working!

And to think I just bought a new package of hangers in early January!  Now I have hangers to spare!

I have daughter Jamie to thank Big Time for being my # One Assistant!  She is the organized one.  Poor me just agreed when she told me it was time to discard so many clothes.  She made me consider the rule we’ve all heard numerous times….”Have you worn this in the past year?”  I threw in a couple of other rules before we began such as ~~~

“Does it look flattering on”

“Is it pilled”

“Do I really feel good in this?”

Those questions plus Jamie’s one year rule truly helped me in getting rid of so much.  I took about 14 bags to the thrift store.  How liberating!

She also goes by the color coordinating closet.  How in the world is she MY daughter?  I disposed of numerous shoes as well.  She made me take every pair out to the living room and line them all up.  You want to know her question?

“How many pairs of brown sandals does Donna need?”

Oh my!  It worked and out went the ugliest of the bunch!

She would not be happy with me if she knew I am placing a pic of her in her pj’s, but she still looks cute I think.  She had two snow days from her work while she stayed with us last week.  That’s how we got so much done.  The fun continued in the kitchen as snowy weather and cookie baking just seem to go hand in hand.

Never fear, we exercised to Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred a few times.

Let's Makes Cookies!

The tears flowed as I knew at the end of the week she was meeting up with her husband to begin life in a new city.  Dan had to go on ahead as his new job started while Jamie had to finish up her two week notice back in our town.

Another happening was little Sammy’s 5th Birthday.  This Grammie always makes the Birthday Cake.  It was a bit of a challenge when Cute Boy wanted Batman.  It was hard to come up with something creative with a Batman theme.  Luckily after much searching I found the small plastic overlay and a package of twelve Batman rings.  I chose to just bake one round layer cake for the overlay and surrounded the cake with cupcakes using the rings and the other half of the cake batter.

You know what I learned?  It doesn’t take much at all to make a young child happy.  He grinned so big when he saw I pulled through with his request for Batman.  This couldn’t have been simpler and he was a happy little boy.  Smile

We went bowling as a family and he invited two little friends.  Angie said it was the easiest party she ever threw.  They had so much fun playing Bumper Bowling.  We adults had the lane next to them.  First time I’ve bowled in probably 15 years.  I need a little practice…

After bowling we went back to their home and had a family meal together.  Good memories…

Yes, I’ve been busy and haven’t shared much lately about what’s going on.  You want to know the real reason I’ve been scarce?  We got a new computer and it has taken me awhile to figure out how to download pictures and load Window’s Live Writer.  Why is something new so difficult?

It’s that love/hate thing again with technology.

Hopefully, I’ll get back into the blogging grove now that I am figuring some of this out.  Hope you’ll keep coming back to see what’s going on in my part of the world!

Donna, you have been BUSY. I'm trying to do some purging too but you are the queen from what I can see in the pictures. Emily has the magic touch to motivate for sure. The birthday boy looks so cute and I bet he was just over the moon with the cake his grandma had made special for him.

What a special time you had with your daughter. Wasn't it perfect to have snow days while she was there with you? You look so cute together...and look at the fun you had purging and being inspired with her. Very special.

The birthday for your little grandson was a special day too...how fun to go bowling...and your Batman Birthday theme sure must have made him very happy.

This was such a warm and happy family post.... :o)

Donna, you have been busy. I too purged my closet last week. I took about five bags to the thrift store. It felt great. I need to tackle a few more closets around here.
Your daughter is darling and what a wonderful inspiration. Perhaps I need her here to help me take a few more bags.
Cute birthday cake! Thanks for sharing, and thank you for the visit. ~ Sarah

I have plans to clean my closet and dresser tomorrow...purge away. I love Jamie's tip to color coordinate the clothing...that makes getting dressed so much easier! What a sweet, organized and pretty girl she is, I know you will miss her. Happy Birthday to Sammy!

Wow! You and your daughter really went to town in your closet! The "After" looks wonderful, and I know you feel so muck lighter after sending so many bags to charity! Your grandson is adorable -- and what a perfect cake for him! My grandson also turns five this week -- such a fun age!

Good job on the cake, Grammie! : ) You're right, I don't think it takes a lot to make kids happy; I'm sure he was thrilled with it! Good for you for purging and kudos to your daughter for her "rules". I follow the one year rule, too, and that's how I go through my clothes every season. Sadly, my hubby does not. I believe he has some t-shirts and sweatpants from 20 years ago!

Doesn't it feel GOOD to be organized and neat?! What do ya think I did for three weeks straight?
I am finally done, have things boxed up for a sale I want to have in a few months and now the re-decorating begins! The satisfaction of being tidy is just amazing. The husband said this morning, "Let's keep it this way." Well, he'd better help out on that end! Guess we are both hoarders... LOL Now, if I could just find a good cleaning lady!
Thanks for your visit. I am so behind on everything- visits, reading, e-mails...
Hope you get over your little sadness about your daughter moving away. Thank goodness for cell phones and free nights and weekend minutes, right?

I'll bet that your closet feels huge now that you've gotten rid of so many things.

Jamie is such a pretty girl, just like her Mom! I hope she is getting adjusted to life in a new town.

Sammie's cake is cute. You always do such a nice job with those.

Okay, you had me ready to purge until you mentioned shoes. I just don't know if I can go that far. Heck, I have a laundry basket full of just flip flops. Great job though. You give me hope.

Hi Donna, It feels good to get rid of things we don't need! I took several bags to Abilities Unlimited, but need to take more!

I looked back on some of your older posts and realized I missed the one of the reception. I don't know how I missed that one!! Everything was just beautiful! Loved the white pumpkins and glittered initials...beautiful!

Yes, I am getting ready for market. I'm leaving Thurs. and will be staying with Sherry until Monday I believe, or whenever they decide to come back I guess...lol. I just go with the flow...I am looking forward to cash and carry and getting more ideas for my Etsy store. I am also planning on ordering more beautiful ribbons! I sure wish you were going...would love to see you again!

Have a great day! Kristen

Wow! You have been busy. I wonder if your daughter could come help me. Bravo for a job well done!

I know you will miss your daughter. Mine moved away about 6 months ago and I miss her too. She was the perfect fashion consultant. :-)

Have a great day and I look forward to hearing from you often!

you two look exactly alike! I purged my closets two winters ago and cried at some of the clothes I got rid of. I loved them but knew I would never wear that size again. Boohoo. But it did feel very liberating to have nice orderly closets and lots of room. xoxo
P.s. I didn't get rid of any black shoes though. LOL

Hello -
I happened by, how is it that so many hangers show up when your cleaning, but they're no where to be found when you need to hang something.
Congratulations on your progress - I am taking one drawer, closet, cabinet at a time - will conquer this!
Great job on the birthday cake!
Kathy

Donna, you did a bang up job on Sammy's birthday cake! Just perfect for a 5 yr. old.
I know EXACTLY how you felt when that moving van pulled away. When DD moved to Hilton Head (13 hrs. away) with her new husband, I went into a real funk.

I'm glad you girls got to spend some quality time together, even if it was spent cleaning out your closet. I soooo need to do that. Ugh! Dreading it. I always have high hopes of fitting back into some of those outfits. :/

Thank you for your sweet birthday wishes!
Hugs,
Rett

p.s. Get that sewing machine out!!!
