When we first moved into our new house I tried to be a bit more contemporary. I looked at fabrics with circles and funky shapes. Yes, I tried.
It's a good feeling when you just realize you are who you are and nothing will change that. I am a traditionalist through and through. That is my look in decorating.
It's time to get serious about decorating The Man Cave. You've seen the other side of this room, the bar area I shared a couple of weeks ago. This is a very large room and is definitely a work in progress. Baby steps ~~ right????
This picture will give you an idea of what I'm working with. There is a double window to the left of this picture. Now pay attention, friends ~~~
She kinda sorta started the feel for where I'm going in this room
(sorry about the glare)
I told Mr. Brown Socks I wanted this to be a masculine room for him {grin} as if he cares
I found the top, smaller one in a quaint shop in Chicago and decided I had to have it
The larger one was found in an antique shop at Nags Head, NC
Now back to "What's on your Wall Wednesday" or maybe what needs to be on my wall ~~ draperies
I decided to make this room feel sort of "Ralph Laureney". With a massive red leather couch and two red leather recliners, this room is crying out for fabric. I only have faux wood blinds up to the window and am now eager to add long drapery panels and pillows for some softness.
I found this fabric which really has a RL feel, don't cha think? I hadn't set out looking for fabric with birds, but this does have quails on it. That makes me a little nervous. I'm a bit concerned that in a few years I will tire of the birds. I like the fact he has a little blue. Most of my home is red or orangy red and it would be fun to introduce some blue to shake things up a bit.
The plaid fabric appeals to me to but I "think" I am more drawn to the one on the left
Trying not to jump too quickly but to keep moving with this project.
Stay tuned for progress!

The man cave is looking good!
Well, I wondered if I would find RED on the walls for your post today.....I guess that is forthcoming! But I DO indeed love the fabric on the left! I love the touch of blue, and the design is just classy, and I don't think you will tired of it. The plaid you can always bring in with pillows or welting..... It's gonna be great!!

I have that plaid for a side chair and a very similar tapestry fabric on my sofa in the den and have continued to enjoy. That red leather you have will go great. I have taupe walls and tobacco drapes with taupe and red tassels for what it's worth. I can't wait to see your finished product - good luck.
Oh, I LOVE Hazel! What a great start to a great room. I like teh plaid fabric too but think the paisley is more interesting.
Oh, I love Hazel! Love those fabrics too! You might get tired of it later on..but by then you'll be ready for a change anyway...I say go for it that beautiful quail fabric!!!!
Love your fabric! Ralph would be proud. Good for you for getting started on redoing a room. I am too indecisive and worried that I'll wreck things. I think Hazel is adorable. :)
I love the fabric on the left! I don't think you would get tired of it and the possibilities with it are endless.
So glad you enjoyed your visit to my blog. It's fun to find others who share your same likes and collections. Please come back!
I have used that fabric before and the quails are more incorporated in the design thus making them not scream "this is a bird fabric". I think you will be happy with the choice it is a stunning fabric and would look oh so wonderful with a nice tassel fringe accenting it! I think if you find various plaids as well as a couple florals in different scales you will be well on your way to your Ralph room. I love the fox hunt prints. I am a traditional gal myself. Thanks for sharing!
LOVE the fabrics Donna!!!
~Beautiful picture too. :)

I like the bird theme you have going, and that fabric is gorgeous.
Donna, I love the "man cave"..Your finds of the hunt scene are fabulous!! I'm wanting to add a couple somewhere.. eventually..lol.. In fact, the other day my girlfriend and I took off and she found a "vintage" hunt scene.. I talked her in to getting.. She's already ordered a new mat.. lol.. Love, love, love your fabric choices.. in fact I would probably use both.. they are "gorgeous".. I love fabrics mixed, usually tones down one of them..Now.. I always love to see the progress you keep achieving.. hugs ~lynne~
Hi Donna...Mr. Brown Socks is soooo male...heehee...but don't we love that about them! Point them to a recliner, the dinner table & the bed...and they'll go for most anything we decide to decorate with...and I say wowee with the choices you have made! ;-) Bo
Great choices for a masculine room, and I would never tire of those fabrics! Lovely choices. Cass
Hi Donna, Thanks for praying for my tooth, it's feeling much better! Praise the Lord!
Your man cave looks great! I really like the fabrics you chose, I like the blues in them too. My hubby has a small mancave 14x14. He wishes it was bigger! We just bought a new sofa at Ashley, it's just plain dark goldish.(not my favorite) but I dressed it up a bit with some spicy pillows for color. He would love to have a room like your hubby's! Love your valentine's wreath too! Kristen
Hi Donna...Yes, that fabric on the left is amazing!! Love it! your DH's man cave is very elegant, I think! Keep us posted on your choices...Debbie
Mornin' Donna...
My friend, I love the "man cave"...love that red leather sofa and chairs! And...love that wall unit/shelves too! I think you're well on your way to a RL design!!! As soon as I seen your "Hazel"...I could see where you were going with this room...it's so funny how one piece can "kick off" an entire design!
Well my friend, I do love both fabrics but my first pick would be the pretty bird fabric...love the pattern and colors and I think it would be perfect in that room!!! Can't wait to see what you decide...I'll stay posted!
Have lots of fun decorating...warmest wishes,
Chari
PS...thank you so much for stopping by my frency studio/office, it's always such a pleasure to have you!!!
Hi Donna, Oh no...It's not too late at all to sign up for my little give-away. I have one of those dreaded rooms too....the Man cave. I started out trying to decorate it "right" but gave up after a while. It's his room and he has stuff everywhere. Nothing goes together and it so cluttered. I hate even going in there. But he does have this fabulous HUGE leather sofa in there that is so comfy. And a great sound system. I play my music in there sometimes realllly loud. :) ~ Lynn P.S. I have always loved the fox hunt pictures and Nags Head is my favorite beach in the whole wide world.
Donna, I'm amassing anniversary clock domes in all sizes. I've seen displays of them all grouped together (wish I could remember what was in them...that would be helpful) & the look is great! And another good thing about the graduating sizes? They stack inside each other for storage!
BTW Hobby Lobby sells them...they have a HUGE one. As soon as it goes into half off, it's mine!
Who can decide??? They are both so nice!
M ^..^
Well *High Five* girlfriend! Lets hear it for the traditionalists!*winks* I love the Hazel picture! And your fabric choices are wonderful! Can't wait to see the finished project!
And I have to tell ya Donna, I can't go shopping without buying at least a little somethin' somethin' either *winks* Vanna
Hey!!! love the fabric choices...I too have a man room. It is done in vintage hockey junk. ugh. sports crap is a decorator's nightmare...along with the gigantic television!
love your blog...and will be back to see the finished room!
I love Hazel. Your home is absolutely beautiful. So glad you take us on tours. I always get inspired visiting your blog.
Have a great day.
Sandra
Hi Donna. My first reactions was the plaid. But, when I look a little while I really decided that I like the bird fabric the best. Maybe you can work the plaid in somewhere in a small way. It is a pretty fabric too.
I hope men realize how much we love them by giving/allowing them a Man Cave! LOL! You are a thoughtful wife!
Donna, I am very traditional, too! I love your man cave. I am partial to the cozy paisley fabric. I love the texture. Your artwork is beautiful. But, you know how much I love birds. Thanks for checking in on me. Hugs, Terrie
